INTERNAL MEDICINE TRAINING CT1

Scotland is recruiting to Internal Medicine Training (IMT) and Acute Care Common Stem: Internal Medicine (ACCS-IM) CT1 programmes for August 2026 start dates. Please note that this vacancy is for Scotland only programmes. If you wish to apply to programmes in England, Northern Ireland and Wales, then please apply via that separate vacancy.

The Scotland IMT vacancy will follow the same process as detailed on the IMT Recruitment website (https://www.imtrecruitment.org.uk/).

Successful completion of IMT will lead to eligibility to enter higher specialty training, and the post start date for this round of recruitment will be 5th August 2026. Applications are equally open to those who may, either from the outset or subsequently, wish to train less than full time or job share.

Further information on the Internal Medicine Training programme in Scotland can be found here on the Scottish Medical Training website (https://www.scotmt.scot.nhs.uk/specialty/specialty-programmes/#I).

Summary information is included below, please see the hyperlinks tab for links to further information about the recruitment process.

Although there are two vacancies for the joint IMT/ACCS-Internal Medicine (ACCS-IM) process: one covering programmes in Scotland, and a separate one for programmes in England, Northern Ireland and Wales. Applications will only be considered for one vacancy, and you should ensure that you only apply to your preferred one. The Oriel system will not prevent two applications being made, and at the closing date, any applicants that have a live (i.e. not withdrawn) application to both vacancies will have the first one submitted withdrawn with no option to change their preferred application.
Applicants who only apply to one of the joint IMT/ACCS-Internal Medicine (ACCS-IM) process in Round 1 of national recruitment will be awarded 5 points onto their shortlist score. The points will be awarded based on ’live’ applications to the round as of the application closing date. This means that if you applied to a specialty other than IMT but withdrew it before the application closing date, this would not be counted when deciding whether to award the 5 points. Points will not be awarded retrospectively based on applications being withdrawn after the closing date. More information about this can be found on the application scoring section of the IMT Recruitment website: https://www.imtrecruitment.org.uk/recruitment-process/applying/application-scoring

The application period will run from 10:00 on Thursday 23rd October 2025 until 16:00 on Thursday 20th November 2025, subject to the conditions of the Applicant’s Guide and process. Please note all times are UK.

Before applying, please ensure that you read the Internal Medicine Training CT1 Person Specification and Scotland Applicant Guide. When completing your application form please ensure that you upload evidence of the required competences, prior to submitting your form.

If you are required to submit a CREST form with your application and do not do so then you will not be offered another opportunity to upload it and your application will not proceed to the next stage of the process.
