Emergency Medicine ST4 Specialty Training Application Form
These are the specialty specific questions used on Oriel for applications to Emergency Medicine ST4.
The questions are presented here to help you prepare for your future applications. Please be aware application form structures, questions, word counts, etc. can change and there is no guarantee that future application forms will remain the same.
Applicants must be competent to manage adult and paediatric resuscitation both medical and trauma.

In order to be eligible for appointment to this specialty, you must have successfully been awarded MRCEM or completed FRECM Intermediate Certificate by 5pm on Tuesday 14th April 2026.
At the time of application have you successfully been awarded MRCEM (MRCEM Primary, Intermediate and OSCE)? (Yes | No)
Answer NO if you have not yet successfully complete all parts of the examination.
To be eligible for ST4 Emergency Medicine you must have completed 36 months’ training at ST/CT1, ST/CT2 and ST/CT3 level in all of the ACCS Emergency Medicine specialties this must include a minimum of:
- 12 months in Emergency Medicine
- 3 consecutive months in Acute Medicine
- 6 consecutive months in Anaesthesia
- 6 consecutive months in Intensive Care Medicine
- 3 consecutive months in Paediatric Emergency Medicine
Experience must be gained within a post that is specifically within the specialty i.e. not combined with another specialty.
Applicants who are not in a UK ACCS Emergency Medicine training programme or have not completed a UK ACCS Emergency Medicine training programme or do not have all of the ACCS core elements (as outlined above) will not be eligible for ST4 Emergency Medicine.
