Applicants who only apply to the joint IMT/ACCS-Internal Medicine (ACCS-IM) process in Round 1 of national recruitment will be awarded 5 points onto their shortlist score. The points will be awarded based on ’live’ applications to the round as of the application closing date. This means that if you applied to a specialty other than IMT but withdrew it before the application closing date, this would not be counted when deciding whether to award the 5 points. Points will not be awarded retrospectively based on applications being withdrawn after the closing date. More information about this can be found on the application scoring section of the IMT Recruitment website: https://www.imtrecruitment.org.uk/recruitment-process/applying/application-scoring

I have read and understand the scoring rules for applicants only applying to IMT/ACCS-IM in Round 1 of national recruitment? (Tickbox)

This recruitment round there are two vacancies for the joint IMT/ACCS-Internal Medicine (ACCS-IM) process: one covering all programmes in England, Northern Ireland and Wales, and a separate one for all programmes in Scotland. Applications will only be considered for one vacancy so you should ensure that you only apply to your preferred one. The Oriel system will not prevent two applications being made, and at the closing date, any applicants that have a live (i.e. not withdrawn) application to both vacancies will have the first one submitted withdrawn with no option to change their preferred application.

I have checked that I have applied to the vacancy covering my preferred area of the United Kingdom. I am aware that I should only apply to one of the two IMT/ACCS-IM vacancies and understand that my earliest submitted application will be withdrawn if I have live applications to both vacancies at the application closing date. (Tickbox)

When completing this section you must read the guidance on selecting options on the IMT Recruitment website, which includes the scoring framework for each area: https://IMTrecruitment.org.uk/recruitment-process/applying/application-scoring.

The guidance includes specific rules about what you can claim and in which section, this includes but is not limited to:

  • Completed achievements only – you can only claim on the basis of achievements completed at point of submission of your application.
  • Scores not adjustable after submission – your application score will not be revised ahead of the shortlisting process; this includes the ‘other’ option which is an option for each area. Additionally, you cannot amend this section after application should you have made a mistake on your application form, or gained an achievement after the submission of your application.

The questions in this section require you to select the most appropriate achievement from each section. On the ‘Evidence’ section in Part 3 of this application form, you will be required to provide text justifying your selection. This text should focus on justifying the scoring option chosen, however, you are welcome to mention other achievements in that domain should you wish. The answers to these questions will make up the application score used to allocate candidates to interview.

Unless specified otherwise on the website, all achievements should relate to the field of medicine (in its broadest sense – i.e. not just hospital medicine).

Queries about which option to choose In addition to the guidance we also have some frequently asked questions which you may find helpful in completing this section: https://IMTrecruitment.org.uk/help/applying-faqs

The single most common question we receive is from candidates unsure which options to choose when it appears unclear. Unfortunately we are restricted in the guidance we can provide as completion of the form must be solely your own work, including choosing achievements from each list.

The general advice is to consider the options available, the guidance on the website and your experience/achievements in this area, and then use your professional judgement to select the option most closely matching. Subsequent to this, provide all additional information required within the form, so as to make a case as to why you have selected this particular option.

It is acknowledged that, on occasion, it will not always be clear exactly which option to choose and so cases of perceived over-claiming are not likely to be considered as a serious offence.

It is important that you’re scoring accurately represents your achievements, as applications are not routinely re-scored, but you must be able to justify your selection and provide evidence if required. Any instances of candidates found to be blatantly or persistently trying to gain an unfair advantage by over-claiming scores and/or exaggerating their achievements will lead to a probity investigation and applicants in this position should expect to be contacted to review their scoring. This could lead to an application being deemed not appointable, or, in very serious cases, could be reported as a probity matter to the GMC; however, this is a very rare outcome and only in cases of overt cheating.
